Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim telephones Chief Adviser


Kuala Lumpur, 14 August 2024


Prime Minister of Malaysia Anwar Ibrahim made a telephone call to Dr. Muhammad Yunus on his recent appointment as the Chief Adviser to the interim government of Bangladesh. On 13 August 2024, he called him  to congratulate him personally on his  appointment. Malaysian Prime Minister  recalled with deep satisfaction that Dr. Yunus has long-standing good ties with Malaysia. He assured Dr. Yunus that Malaysia stands ready to extend its all out support to the interim Government. Malaysia is ready to be a partner of Bangladesh in its endeavour to become a prosperous and truly democratic state - he added.


During his conversation with Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, Dr. Yunus reiterated  his strong committment to protect the rights of all Bangladeshis, including religious and other  minorities. Dr. Yunus also invited him to visit Bangladesh to further strengthen the brotherly relationship between the two countries. Malaysian dignitary expressed his desire to visit Bangladesh at the earliest. Professor Yunus thanked the Malaysian Prime Minister for the call and he also hoped that Bangladeshi workers will find more opportunities in Malaysia.


Earlier, on 10 August 2024, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim posted a warm congratulatory message for Prof. Yunus in his social media accounts quoting the immortal verses of Tagore's poem "Where the mind is without fear" in which he eulogized the vision and vigour of the youth of the country. It may be mentioned here that Prof. Yunus is also the Chancellor of Albukhari University in Malaysia. Malaysian Prime Minister is a longtime friend of the 2006 Nobel Peace Laureate and a great friend of Bangladesh.
